Want to know why the number on the scale doesn’t matter? Just check out our FTF family member, Andrea, and her amazing results after only 3 weeks!!!
And guess how much weight she lost? Go ahead guess! I will wait…Ok I will tell you. She lost 1LB and a whole lot of body fat and inches.
If you are “EATING CLEAN” and “EATING RIGHT” and working out and for some reason the scale will not budge, you are not alone. But your focus should not be on the scale. This is a common problem for most people that are trying to lose weight. They focus so heavily on the scale that when it doesn’t move they give up, feel terrible about themselves, and even go into depression. Keep your head up because the number on the scale does NOT tell the full story.
Here are the many other reasons why the number on the scale doesn’t matter:
1. YOUR BODY COMPOSITION IS CHANGING
Do you ever wonder why the number on the scale doesn’t move or even matters? Look at your body composition, the muscle to fat ratio.
When the scale doesn’t move, you are losing body fat while gaining muscle. Your weight may stay the same, even as you lose inches, a sign that you’re moving in the right direction.
But, if the scale doesn’t change, you may not even be aware that you’re getting real results, especially if you are not taking progress pictures and tracking yourself.
Knowing the difference between losing weight and losing body fat can change how you get results and may even change how you look at your own body.
This is what really counts, not just the measly number on the scale. So stop stressing for no reason!
2. YOUR WEIGHT FLUCTUATES EACH DAY
If you weigh yourself daily (WHICH YOU SHOULDN’T BE DOING ANYWAYS), you may notice the number fluctuate each day. Sometimes this is due to water retention due to hormones, other times you’re holding water due to consuming excessive sodium. Know your body and pay attention to when you bloat. Drink lots of water and lower your sodium intake so that you can avoid this. And stop stressing over the number on the scale.
3. YOUR WEIGHT DOES NOT ALWAYS SHOW HEALTH
Just because someone is thin does not mean they are healthy. In fact, the heavier person may have a better overall health due to lifestyle choices like eating right and working out. So do not let the scale be your health gage. Focus on practicing healthier habits so you can live a great life!
4. YOUR MUSCLE WEIGHS MORE THAN FAT RIGHT?
Wrong! As you work out, you are building lean muscle which weighs exactly the same as fat but is leaner. So realize if your clothes are bigger but the scale is the same, this is because of the lean muscle you have built. Building lean muscle has loads of benefits. Did you know building muscle will help boost your metabolism so you can burn fat even at rest?
Here are some other benefits of Lean Muscle”
- Burns more calories
- Create a leaner physique
- Reduce your risk of injury
- Increase strength, stability, power and endurance
- Improve balance and mobility
- Improve confidence
- Increase energy and vitality
- Enhance athletic performance
- Create metabolic reserve in times of traumas such as (car accidents and burns)
- Increase your metabolic efficiency
- Improve insulin sensitivity and improve blood glucose control
Should I keep going?
Focus more on lean muscle and you will be heading the right direction.
5. YOUR CLOTHES CAN TELL THE TRUTH
Instead of determining whether you are getting results based on the scale, look at how your clothes fit. If you clothes fit great, then the number on the scale is not important. Let your clothes be the gage in deciding if your hard work dieting and exercising is paying off! And by all means if you clothes are getting bigger or you are following out of your pants because you are losing so many inches go celebrate by buying some new skinny jeans…
6. IT CAN BREAK YOUR DAY
If the number on the scale can make or break your day, you are not alone. It is tough not to be slighted when your weight is up. You find yourself feeling thin when the number is down. Stop focusing on your weight and just worry about adopting a healthier lifestyle. Sometimes the number of the scale can be plain annoying!

7. YOUR SCALE DOES NOT ACCOUNT FOR EVERYTHIN
When you step on the scale you are weighing every tissue, cell, the food you ate and the glass of water you just drank. Realize the scale does not account for everything and the numbers do not show the bigger picture of fitness and health. Focus on how you look and feel, not just your weight. Track your progress with progress pictures and how loose your clothes feel.
So now that you know the reasons to stop stressing over the scale, are you ready to keep working to your fitness and health goals?
Start thinking like this…
You can always be better, stronger and see more results. Just remember you get what you give! Now go give it your all.
